A great dog walk starts before you even step outside. Having the right items packed can help keep your dog safe, comfortable, and happy from start to finish.
First, always bring waste bags. Cleaning up after your dog keeps neighborhoods, parks, and walking paths clean for everyone. A secure leash and properly fitted collar or harness are also important. Before every walk, check that everything is clipped correctly and fits comfortably.
Water is another must-have, especially on warm days or longer walks. Dogs can overheat quickly, so bringing a portable water bowl or dog-safe water bottle helps keep them hydrated. Treats can also be helpful for rewarding good leash behavior, practicing commands, or redirecting your dog when distractions come up.
For safety, make sure your dog has updated ID tags or a microchip. If you walk early in the morning or later in the evening, reflective gear or a light-up collar can make both you and your dog easier to see.
It is also smart to bring your phone, but stay focused on your dog and your surroundings. Walks are a great time for exercise, bonding, sniffing, and mental stimulation.
At Alissa’s Pet Services, we know every walk is more than just a potty break. A safe, prepared walk helps dogs get the movement, attention, and routine they need while giving pet parents peace of mind.
